The EPIK Program

About EPIK

EPIK is affiliated with the Korean Ministry of Education and has the objective of improving the English speaking abilitiesof Korean students. In order to achieve this objective, EPIK employs native English speaking teachers and places them in Korean public schools throughout the country.   • School Type: Korean public schools (elementary - high school)
  • Location: Nationwide
  • Starting Date: Spring/Fall
  • Teaching Age Group: Elementary - high school students
  • Salary: 2.0 - 2.7 million Korean Won per month
  • Contract Length: 1 year (renewable)
  • Vacation: about 18 days & national holiday
  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Teaching Hours: Approximately 22 hours per week

Duties

EPIK teachers are required to assist Korean English teachers with their classes and practice duties specified by Metropolitan Office of Education (MOE) / Provincial Office of Education (POE). Preparing classes and developing teaching materials are essential parts of the job.

  • Be a citizen of a country where English is the primary language (must be from USA, Canada, UK, New Zealand, Ireland, Austrailia, or South Africa)
  • Hold a minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Possess no criminal history

 

Private English Schools

Private English schools in Korea recruit native English teachers all year round. Private schools are located througout all of Korea and applicants can choose which location they want to work in. There are various types of schools depending on the student age group and purpose of the school. Applicants can choose which school they want to apply to based on age group, working hours, benefits, and other conditions.

  • Location: Nationwide
  • Starting Date: All year round
  • Teaching age group: Elementary - high school students
  • Salary: 2.0 - 3.1 million Korean Won per month
  • Vacation: about 10 days & nationla holidays (approx. 9 - 14 days per year)
  • Working Hours: Varies per school 

Benefits

Varies per school, but generally are as follows

  • Paid vacation
  • Housing provided by school
  • One-way ticket provided
  • Severance payment of approximately one month salary provided upon contract completion
  • Health insurance provided
  • Full pension refund upon leaving Korea (Canadian, American, and Austrailian nationals only)

  • Hold a minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university (3-4 year degree)
  • Got TESL training
  • Possess no criminal history
